The Magic of Mindset
“Reason” is a more acceptable word for “excuse”
When faced with a busy schedule, a new challenge, or confronting the things you don’t want to do, do you come up with a list of “reasons” to avoid action? The more “reasoning” you do, the easier it becomes. In this way, such EXCUSES lead only to procrastination, not to produce results. What may have started as legitimate reasoning could end in self-doubt.
Why do we make excuses anyway? The simplest answer: FEAR.
- Fear of interacting with others
- Fear of trying something new
- Fear of failure
- Fear that no one is even listening.
The cure? Well, that’s less simple. The only sure-fire way to overcome excuses is to STOP making them and take action. Execution of a plan and follow through extinguish the flames of procrastination. When negative thoughts and old patterns of behavior sneak back in, have a list of positive messages to combat them. It all starts with taking responsibility.
An excuse is used to avoid responsibility. When we shift the blame, we avoid responsibility for a failure, and we also avoid the responsibility of learning from that failure.
Dave Anderson
People with integrity do what they say they are going to do. Others have excuses.
Laura Schlessinger
Reasons could be better defined as circumstances. However, the circumstance alone does not predict the outcome. Our actions and responses determine what we learn and how well we overcome challenging situations. Looking at “problems” as an opportunity changes how you approach every situation!
It is wise to direct your anger towards problems, not people; to focus your energy on answers, not excuses.
William Arther Ward
Shift your Focus
We get out what we put in regarding ANY situation. Whether a relationship, job, project, class, or experience, your attitude determines your overall impression of the situation. Those who enter with entitled expectations or a doom and gloom attitude will likely only see the “bad things.” Others will see the opportunity. Problems are challenges that can be overcome and Overcomers have the best stories. A positive attitude allows you to create amazing experiences.
The direction of your focus is the direction you life will move. Let yourself move toward what is good, valuable, strong, and true.
