New Word for the Year
Posted On January 1, 2023
In 2022, my word focus was Gratitude. Some days, living in gratitude takes no effort. On other days, it takes every ounce of energy. When I spend the energy, I find that my battery recharges, giving me more power to do what needs to be done for the day. Living in gratitude takes practice and mental conditioning. Just as you wouldn’t sign up to run a marathon tomorrow if you’ve never worked out a day in your life, your spiritual walk requires training and discipline. Starting with gratitude, even for the most basic of things, is like the first warm-up. As you gain momentum, you realize how much there is to be grateful for and how much you can do for others out of your own gratitude. For 2023, I’ve chosen the word Leadership. Simply put, leadership is how you show up in life, in all areas of your life. I cannot expect my children to have a good attitude and work ethic if I don’t model it for them. My plan includes doing more learning together as we go through our day. Everything is a learning opportunity, which also means everything is an opportunity to show leadership. Gratitude is a huge part of effective leadership! Theodore Roosevelt said, “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” I am excited about the opportunities that this year will bring to live in gratitude and grow in leadership. |
