About this Blog
This blog began in 2008, during our first deployment. We lived miles away from our family. Writing was a way for me to share our lives with everyone quickly.
The more I wrote, the more I realized the writing needed a home of its own. What name would best describe our journey? After mindful consideration and prayer, I landed on a name, but it didn’t belong to me. I contacted Keith Lancaster to get permission to use the name of one of Acappella’s songs. Growing Up in the Lord described what I want for myself and my family. His response brought tears to my eyes: “So glad you are calling it that! Blessings on your ministry.”
Years later, the name still fits.
Growing Up in the Lord is a collection of stories from my life, but to me, they are really all pieces of one continuing journey. It is a journey of faith, family, growth, questions, lessons, and discovering how God’s Word speaks into the ordinary moments of everyday life.
This space, like my life, is a work in progress.
Over the years, I have come to realize that some of the most meaningful spiritual lessons do not always happen in dramatic or extraordinary circumstances. They often happen in simple moments—through family experiences, unexpected challenges, conversations, memories, laughter, mistakes, and situations that make us stop and look at life a little differently. I want to share those moments here.
Each post may focus on a different story or experience, but they are all connected. Together, they reflect my own process of growing in faith and learning to recognize God’s presence and direction along the way.
I write for me but always with the prayer that if my story can help someone else, just one someone, the post finds them.
I’m still growing up in the Lord, too.
